Day 65

Objective:  The students will get a score of 4 or better on the district writing test.

1.  District Writing Test.  You have 50 minutes.

Hints:  Remember, AP Literature likes to present contrasts as something that is to be analyzed.  Remember too that the prompt will TELL you specific words (ideas, concepts) that you need to focus on and mention IN YOUR ESSAY.  And remember, everything comes back to the author's purpose which should be mentioned and referred to a few times.

Hint 2:  I am not dumb.  Believe me... I am not dumb.  Don't chance doing something stupid that you will regret!  One grade will have little effect on the semester grade.  One dumb mistake means I will seek to fail you or have you dropped from class.  To make this clear... I know there are essays on the internet... don't use them!!!

Day 61

Objective:  The students will have a great discussion about the analyzed poem, and if they do, there will be no essay tomorrow.

Roll in GC

1.  All Frankenstein essays are graded.  These were good.  I think most of you have a grasp on what is needed to pass the AP essay.  You are getting the typical errors out of the way, but...

Book need italics or underlines... not quotations.

Quotation Punctuation... "The punctuation goes inside of the last quotation mark."

Make sure you say the CORRECT AUTHOR!

Long Quotes still do not help your paper.

If you use Example Quotes:  You need a colon before.

The monster feels that he is in total control: "You made me, but I am your master."

2.  Let's analyze Sweetness together

Thursday, January 14, 2021

Monday, January 11, 2021

Day 56

Objective:  The students will analyze a great poem by William Wordsworth.

1.  Roll in GC

2.  Discuss the Frankenstein Prompt and Essay:  What did you all write about?  And what would I have written about?

3.  Perrine's Chapter 7 Outline PP.  You don't have to outline it.  Just takes notes from the discussion.

4.  "She Dwelt Upon the Untrodden Ways" TTSTCANDI due Wednesday.

Thursday, January 07, 2021

Day 55

Objective:  The students will write a passing grade essay.

1.  Frankenstein Q3 Essay

Hints:

1.  Do not say "the reader" anywhere.  You are not part of the essay.  Instead of saying something like "this shows the reader that..."  Just say, "this shows"  or something to that effect.

2.  Have a good but short intro.  Must include the thesis.  And use key words from the prompt.

3.  Use a few quotes, but not too many on the Q3 essay.

4.  Develop your points with specific details to support your thesis.

5.  Make sure you mention the book and the author's name.

I picked a great prompt.  It should be easy if you read.

Wednesday, January 06, 2021

Day 55

Objective:  The students will complete the Frankenstein test on Albert.io.

1.  I WAS SO PISSED after our lack of discussion of Frankenstein last class.

I want to treat you all like college kids.  In college, it is the class discussions that make it all so RICH and educational.

NOT Multiple Choice Tests.  So I hoped that we wouldn't have to use Multiple Choice Tests (other than the Practice MC for the real test).

But since only about 1/3 of you read the book... there has to be some consequence.

This is worth 100 points.  You have 45 minutes from when you start.  It is due today by 2 pm.

Monday, January 04, 2021

Day 54

Objective:  The students will have a final discussion of Frankenstein in preparation for their next essay.

1.  Roll out loud.

2.  Frankenstein Final Observations PP
