Day 18

Objective:  The students will discuss what they came up with in their analysis of How I Met My Husband.

1.  Presentations:  Geography, Seasons and Interlude 2:  One Story.

2.  Discuss completed TTSTCANDI:  What would you write about as far as literary devices that the author used to get across her purpose?

Friday:  We will go to listen to Senator Takano first period.  There will be no lit work that day.  Period 5, you will have no work either.

Objective:  The students will discuss the analysis of the new story.

First Period:  Do you want to do this?

I wanted to reach out to see if you would be interested in bringing your 1st period class to the theatre Friday, 9/2 to listen to Congressman Takano chat about civic engagement and what his role is in our government.  Given we are hosting him 1st period only, we are looking for classes geared towards 12th graders or Civic minded courses who might benefit from a presentation such as this.

Day 16

Objective:  The students will read and analyze the second story of the year.

First Period:  Who wants extra credit??

1.  Last day for rewrites of Personal Statements.  

2.  Get Perrine's and the TTSTCANDI handout and read the story and complete some of the TTSTCANDI.  Quiz tomorrow to make sure that you read.  30 points.

Day 15

Objective:  The students will complete all terms on Prose Unit 1 cover sheet in order to analyze the final two short stories.

Day 13

Objective:  The students will analyze "The Destructors" in small groups.

1.  "The Destructors" Reading Check 25 points

2.  In small groups, complete the TTSTCANDI handout as thoroughly as you can.  You will not get it all, but try.  You can use your phones to look up words and parts of the story (like the government system at the time in the story) BUT do not use it to find analysis from other people.

This is due tomorrow.

Day 12

Objective:  The students will analyze their first story.

Personal Essay Rewrites:  Period 1 let me finish Period 5 before you turn in.  And you must staple the old one to it.

1.  Allusion Notes:  Copy onto a paper where you will keep track of all allusions important for passing the class.  "Jesus and Apostles":  Remember, I am not teaching the Bible, I am simply sharing the important details of something that will help you analyze literature.

2.  Go over Chapter 3 Perrine's Outline

3.  Presentations:  Political, Christ figure, Baptism

4.  "The Destructors" Reading and TTSTCANDI:  Finish reading the story at home.  There will be a quiz first thing tomorrow to check your reading.

Day 11

Objective:  The students will outline the last chapter that we have to read and understand in order to analyze our first short story (prose piece).

1.  Discuss Perrine's Chapter 2 PP.

2.  Perrine's Chapter 3 Outline:  Due tomorrow for stamp.  There is no handout this time.  You read the chapter and pick out the important info that you will have to know for the class.

Day 10

Objective:  The students will discuss Chapter 2 on Plot and present chapters of summer reading.

1.  Get the handout.

2.  Turn in Personal Statement

3.  Presentations:  Interlude 1 through Is that a Symbol.

4.  Complete Tone Terms for Monday.

5.  Use AP Guide (Handout) to join the class and "decide" about taking the test.

 When you are ready for your students to "join" your sections, they will need join codes for each period you teach.  When they join, they will be listed as "Undecided" for their exams. They must indicate that they plan (switch to "yes" or "no") by November 8, and a $40 fee will be collected at that time.

Day 7

Objective:  The students will outline the first chapter of the textbook.

1.  Presentations 1-3.  Those in the "audience" will listen respectfully, add to it afterward with insights and questions, and then take notes as to what is important for the class and any upcoming test.

3.  Out line Chapter 1.  Use my template (the page numbers may be off because my book is different) to fill in both sheets completely.  This is due tomorrow for points and discussion.

Get Grendel book.  Either the real thing or a printed pdf from somewhere.

Day 3

Objective:  The students will spend the hour completing the district's requirement for digital citizenship.

1.  Grab the handouts.  Grab your graded assignment from yesterday also (in the back on the bookshelf).

2.  Summer Work Presentations Discussion.  We will start the first presentations Monday.

3.  This is a 10 point "participation" activity.  I have to do it.  You have to do it, but you should also get some points for it, so if you "participate," you will get the 10 points.

Tomorrow hopefully we can work on some lit stuff. :)

Day 1

Welcome to the first day of one of the best years of your life!!

Objective:  The students (and teacher) will feel comfortable in an environment of learning, inquiry, taking chances and experiencing literature through reading, writing and discussing.

1.  Sit anywhere that you feel comfortable and you will not be distracted.

2.  Roll and Intro (Library Text Checkout:  9:15nd 2:10)

3.  Summer Work:  It was supposed to be completed yesterday.  How many of you did it?  1000 point test tomorrow!  Due turned in by Oct. 3 (50 points)

4.  Summer Work Presentations will begin next week.  More info on that later.
