Grendel Essays Graded.... I was kinda happy.

Objective:  The students will complete the last TTSTCANDI of a Hemingway story for Prose Packet 2 complettion.

1.  Essays:  There were some bright spots.  And there were come that just frustrated me....  Like I have been talking to myself for the last 10 weeks.  Here is what I saw:
    a) Many of you still are writing EPIC intros.  How long should it be?  What should be in the most important part on a Q3 when the prompt asks, ""the meaning of the work as a whole"?
    b) How do we punctuate a title correctly?  You must know this.  It just makes you look bad in the first sentence of the essay.
    c)  Read the prompt.  What does it repeat?  If it repeats something (three times) you better focus on that!  Mention it several times in the paper.
    d)  STOP slapping in quotes.  Man I hate that.
    e)  Some of you wrote about how the author used devices.  This prompt didn't ask for that.  Your paragraphs should not have been limited to TTSTCANDI analysis.
    f)  Some of you have made it this far in High School on BS.  You are a good writer, so you think BS will be enough to pass.  But if you don't know the book, your essay grade will reflect your BS.

2.  Complete the last TTSTCANDI for Prose Packet 2.  "Three Day Blow"  The whole packet is due on Thursday.

3.  Tomorrow and Wednesday you will work on Hemingway Presentations.  They start Thursday.

Objective:  The students will read and analyze one of the simplest, yet complex stories by Hemingway.

1.  Close Read "Hills Like White Elephants"

2.  Complete a TTSTCANDI with a partner.  Discuss things you see and the overall meaning of the story.

3.  Look closely at the characters.  How does the American fit a typical male character in a Hemingway story (yesterday's notes).

It was nice meeting 15 of your parents yesterday!!!

Objective:  The students will see 10 different REAL AP Q3 Prompts and brainstorm in groups how they would approach each one on an essay for class.

NOTE:  RUSD has decided to NOT PAY for Turnitin.com anymore.... so feel free to plagiarize.

1.  "The Grave"... we will work with that on Monday.  Today and tomorrow we have to put Grendel to rest.

2.  Let's look at what a Q3 Prompt looks like.

Good Morning!!! Missed You!!

Objective:  The students will complete the next story in the prose unit 2.

1.  Get your folder and Q3 Study Form out.  I will call you 1 at a time for grading of each.  Be prepared to show me 3 of the following:

a)  The Destructors TTSTCANDI
b)  Allusion Notes on Pandora's Box
c)  MC Practice "New York"
d)  Essay Number 1 Miss Brill
e)  Chapter 2 Outline or Notes: Plot and Structure


2.  Read and complete TTSTCANDI for "The Grave."  If I were you, I would read the TTSTCANDI questions/prompts and that will aid your reading/analysis.

Objective:  The students will complete their MC Midterm and a Grendel Q3 Study Form.

1.  No phones today or your MC tests will not be graded.  Write you name in the left hand corner.  And put your student number.  If I have to look up your number, it is -10% on your score.

Objective:  The students will complete reading of Grendel and prepare their Grendel packet for grading.

3.  Complete packet.  There are 12 chapter questions and 12 theme sheets to include.  In order for easy grading.  Due Thursday.
