Senior Non-Ditch Day

Objective:  The students will complete Poetry AP Test Practice on two poems using Albert.io.

1.  Sorry I couldn't find my electric griddle, so no egg burritos today.  But help yourself to a donut.

2.  If you are here.  You get 5 Extra Credit Points.  Even if you are at DECA or King High Remembers.

3.  Complete the Poetry Assignment on Albert.io.  It is due by 8 pm.  It is worth 15 points.  There are 19 questions possible.  I gave you a new poem, and an old poem that you should be familiar with.  I got 17/19 correct.  89%.  See if you can beat me.

Objective:  The students will see sample papers and scores picked by AP Readers.  Then they will peer score.

1.  Get your essay from the back.  DO NOT SHARE YOUR SCORE WITH ANYONE!!!

2.  Get the sample papers packet.

3.  Read the Rubric description of a 5.  That's what you are shooting for.

4.  Read my essay.  Then read the samples.

5.  Get in groups of four.  Pass your paper to two other people to score.  DO NOT LOOK AT THE GRADE THAT I GAVE IT! 

6.  Read the paper and come up with a score.  Then turn the paper over and write the score you gave it.

Essays Done: Now Let's See What Er Need to Do to Get Better.

Objective:  The students will see other essays to further judge their progress in writing.

1.  Get out "My Goddess..." for 10 points.

2.  Look at Writing Prompt.  Then look at your intro.  Did you do the TWO things that are needed to do in the intro?

Look at my samples.  They are what you should do.

3.  Look at the Rubric I used to grade.  Then look at the sample paper that was used as a sample.  Read it and determine what grade it should receive.

4.  Look at the three samples from our class.  What grade, using the rubric, should these papers have received?  Do you agree with my grading?  Why?

Welcome Back! Missed you!

Objective:  The students will complete lit terms for Poetry Part 3.

Welcome to your last semester of high school literature!  Don't let my class keep you from graduating PLEASE!!!!  Work hard, but have fun too!

1.  Sit anywhere.  I will make a seating chart later this week after kids transfer in and out.

2.  Perrine's Poetry Part 3.  Do the lit terms on a separate sheet of paper.  Due tomorrow.

New Phone Policy:  Since a few of you (well one of you) figured out that it's illegal for me to take points away for "inappropriate phone use," I have a new way of dealing with it.  It's a "Participation Grade."

You will all start out with 100 points on a "Participation" assignment grade.  I will deduct 20 points from it each time you are using the phone in a rude, uncaring, inappropriate way.  That's legal. :)

Last Day Before Project Final

Objective:  The students will perfect their projects for presentation.

Note:  I was very impressed with yesterday's book discussions.  I was telling Mr. Herrera and Mr. Sjoerdsma that I know that many of my kids won't take the AP Exam at the end of the year, but just listening to you all yesterday, I can tell that many have learned a lot.  All of your Q3 grades went up 30 points.  Made my day!

1.  Complete Poetry 2 Packet.  It should have 4 outlines, 5 poem TTSTCANDIs and 2 terms.

2.  Projects.  If you are not here for the presentation, you get an F.  Random start Monday.

Your turn to say smart things!!

Objective:  The students will share their novel with the students who did not read it.

1.  Get your Q3

2.  Get into your discussion group.  You have 5 minutes to plan.

3.  You can use anything for your discussion...  Book, Q3, whatever you need.  Explain the story and its analysis with the others. 

Grade:  Your Q3 score in the computer will go up for each insightful, educated, AP smart statement that is made.  All students must talk at least once.  I will keep track if you do.

Scoring:  1 point up for smart.
               1 point minus for not-smart.
               5 points minus if I ask a question that can't be answered.

Last Day for Q3

Objective:  The students will complete he Q3 Study Form and show that they have complete mastery of the content and analysis of the book.

1.  Complete Q3 Study Form.

2.  Tomorrow we will have two book discussions.  You will use your Q3 Form to discuss the book with the kids who read the other book.  This discussion will take at least 15 minutes.  You will present as a group in front of the glass.  Each one of you must speak, discussing the plot of the book and all of the AP analysis points.  It must be deep and thorough.  IT WILL BE PART OF THIS Q3 Form Test Grade.

It will not deal specifically with your presentation topics.

Objective:  The students will complete a Q3 Study Form to show that they have read and analyzed the novel for an upcoming essay.

1.  Get out three sheets of paper and a pen.  Do not write on my paper.  Write neatly.  This is worth 100 points.  How am I gonna grade it?  I am going to take the ten best... They are A's.  I am going to take the next 10 best... They are B's.  I will take the next 20 best.  They are C's.  The rest are D's and F's.
