Last Story of Prose II Packet

Objective:  The students will analyze a great piece of short prose.

1.  You have had 10 days to get your book.  Put it on your desk for 200 points.

2.  Get the new story and the TTSTCANDI sheet.

3.  Close Read the story.  You will have a quiz tomorrow.  We will also complete the TTSTCANDI tomorrow in groups, but if you fail the quiz, you will not get points for the assignment in the packet.

It is a cool story!  Very deep!

Grendel Essays are done.  Not so good you all!!!

Objective:  The students will present final Nick Adams stories.  Then read another cool Hemingway story.

1.  Presentations completion.  I think we have 3 in each class.

3.  You need your new book by next Monday:  You choose:  Handmaid's Tale or Frankenstein. 

Note:  Handmaid's Tale is sexually explicit and graphic in it's imagery.  Frankenstein is not.

2.  Get three sheets of paper and a pen.  Write on one side only (I will not read it otherwise) and write.

"Why don't we do anything fun in here?" A. Aponte.

Objective:  The students will brainstorm what they would write about if given these 10 prompts to write about.

1.  Get handouts and your graded Grendel Packet.

2.  When called to the front, have your printed Q3 Study Form ready to be graded.

3.  In groups, look at all 10 prompts.  Highlight the key words that you would focus om in your essay.

4.  Rank the essay prompts.  Which possible three would you like to write on?  Mark the board.  Three marks.

Finish Grendel Today

Objective:  The students will complete analysis of their first Q3 piece:  Grendel.

1.  Two Nick Adams Presentations

2.  Grendel 12.  Read and analysis.

3.  Grendel 11-12 Theme Chart

Put together Grendel Packet.  12 Chapter Analysis papers and 6 Theme Charts in order!  If you didn't have one when I checked it, do not add it to the packet.

Essay Paragraphs:  They are graded:  Here is what I saw:

1.  There is NO SUCH THING AS ANALOGICAL LANGUAGE!
2.  You have to have a complete UT, not just the subject of it.
3.  You need to go deeper.  Don't just list a bunch of metaphors without analyzing each.
4.  Some of you have to work on neatness.
5.  Five sentence paragraphs are for regular kids!  Not you!

Essay Practice

Objective:  The students will get some writing practice using the story "The End of Something" as the focus piece.

Notes:

FFASA opened yesterday.  Don't wait too long to do it.  It sucks!  Remember passwords!!

Go on college board and check yes or no to taking the AP Exam.  You don't have to pay and I think that you can change your mind at any time until you actually pay.
