Day 73

Objective:  he students will work in group's to complete research for their upcoming project/presentation on their chosen novel:  The Handmaid's Tale or Frankenstein.

1.  Get into your groups.

2.  Get out those computers and your research note papers.

3.  By the end of the day try to have at least TWO reliable sources identified and notes on your topic.

4.  Keep up with reading schedule.

Day 72

Objective:  The students will get into novel groups and discuss the progress of the characters, plot and universal themes as they have developed in the last readings.

1.  Handmaid's and Frankenstein Reading Days 8-10 Quiz

2.  Group Discussions:  Get into groups and discuss the development that you all noticed as you read the last few days:  Feminism, Allusions, Symbols, Universal Truths, and Social Commentary.

3.  Group Projects:  These should be shaping up well.  Remember that each member needs to turn in handwritten notes from at least FIVE sources in the packet.

Day 71

Objective:  The students will continue to work in groups on projects.  Then take a week off for Thanks and for Rest!  And have fun too!

Good Morning Ryan P.  I hope you had a good game last night are playing in the finals today.  Have a great game.

2.  Reading Schedule.  You have the week off so everyone (and I mean everyone!!!) should be all caught up with detailed Close Reading and ready for group discussions when we return.

Day 70

Objective:  The students will complete a Multiple Choice Practice for points.

1.  MC Practice individual and then in groups for points.  14 points possible.  I got 12 my first time.

2.  Projects.

3.  Reading.  Keep up with the reading schedule.  There will be a BIG test when you are done.  And if I ask you a question about the book during your presentation and you don't know it (as far as reading) then  YOU will fail the presentation too.  It is worth 200 points.  You will get a ZERO.

4.  If you don't show up tomorrow... No Big!  Have a great week off.  I am thankful to have you all in my class.

Day 67

Objective:  The students will discuss their reading and continue work on projects.

1.  Reading Quiz:  Day 3 and 4.

2.  Essay are done.  You are getting better!  BUT, I said that I could pass writing 4 paragraphs (because I am a good writer who has 50 years of experience).  You all may need to add one in order to push your papers to the passing level.  If you have time in the writing of the essay, use it!

Objective:  The students will begin their next chosen novel and their final projects.

1.  Get the handout.

2.  Get the presentation packet for your chosen book.

3.  Discuss the requirements of the project.  The reading aspect and the research.

4.  Get into your groups based on the novel that you chose to read.

5.  Discuss what topic you would like to pick.  Write your group name on the board.

Day 63

Objective:  The students will write a great Q2 Analysis Essay for the Prose Final.

1.  Get out three sheets of paper and a pen.

2.  Closely read the prompt.  Underline what you NEED to do in the essay to pass.

3.  Read the excerpt and analyze.  

4.  Write your essay.  One side only and be neat.  Remember all the things that I said TO DO, and what NOT TO DO.

Have a great weekend.  We start Frankenstein or Handmaid's on Monday.  Make sure that you have the book.

Day 60

Objective:  Students will discuss "The Grave" and then do a bit of practice AP Writing.

1.  Last Group Presentations (period 2)

2.  Discuss The Grave

3.  Write the first TWO paragraphs for the following promt:

Read "The Grave," a short story by Katherine Porter written in 1935 carefully. Then write a well-developed essay in which you analyze how Porter depicts the impact of the environment on the two children. You may wish to consider such literary devices as tone, imagery, selection of detail, and point of view.

4.  Prepare and turn in Prose Packet 2:  There now should be 10 things.

Buy Frankenstein or Handmaid's Tale by Monday.  We start reading on Monday.
