Day 91

Objective:  The students will discuss Perrine's Chapter 2 and then analyze their second poem. "Out, Out."

NOTE:  Period 5:  A parent contacted me about your report cards.  For some reason in the comments section it says that you are "A pleasure to have in class" which is true.  It also has a second comment that says you "Display poor sportsmanship."  This is probably my mistake, and I am going to work on getting that changed today.  Please apologize to your parents for me.

1.  Allusion Notes:  Narcissus and Echo

2.  Discuss Chapter Outline:  PP

3.  Listen to "Out, Out" :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8ChoJaO7xo

3.  "Mirror" analysis and TTSTCANDI due tomorrow for stamp.

Allusion Notes:  Greek Mythology:  Narcissus and Echo

·       Narcissus was a gorgeous male who admired himself enormously.

·       Echo loved him, but he ignored her.

·       Eventually she was cursed with not being able to voice her own thoughts but only repeat what others had said.

·       This bothered Narcissus and he taunted her because of it.

·       She eventually wasted away, with only her voice, repeating the words of others, remaining.

·       Narcissus became so enamored with himself that one day he admired his reflection in a pond.

·       He became stuck there, staring at his beauty.

·       He was stuck there so long that he became a flower that grows there.
