Day 21

Objective:  The students will read their next short story.

Today we have some "house cleaning to do." 

1.  Allusion/Common Symbols Notes:  Colors

2. Make sure that you have submitted your "Destructors" half essay in GC.  

3.  If you have not signed up for my class in College Board, you must do it by Friday.  It is worth 10 points and the list of students who have not done it is very long!

4.  Personal Statements:  I will call you up one at a time to discuss them.  You have a week to make them better if needed.  Staple the old one to the new one.  I don't want to read the whole thing again.

5.  Read our next story:  "How I Met My Husband." 

Symbols in Lit:  Colors

·    White:  Purity and innocence; live, love.  Sometimes death (snow is white)

·    Orange:  Midday; high noon of existence, harvest, pride, ambition.

·    Black:  No color, sorrow, evil, darkness, depression.  Nothingness, void, corruption.

·    Gray:  Mediocrity, sickness.

·    Red:  Sexual passion, anger,

·    Green:  youth and vigor, growth and fertility. Hope, change, life, and inexperience.

·    Yellow:  Sickness, weakness

·    Purple:  royalty, riches, quickening of life.

·    Blue:  Truth, intellect, dawn and awakening.  Life.

Objective:  The students will read their first story in Perrine's.

3.  Read "The Destructors" in Perrine's by tomorrow.  Just read it and think about all that we have covered as far as how to read like a lit teacher/AP student. Page 115-129.
