AP Friday (I am taking a sick day)

Hello everyone.  I am not assigning an  assignment today.  I need to do some catch up on my other two classes.

So today I am just going to watch the AP Lesson.  You should too if you are taking the test.

Also, Brianna wanted me to discuss what I would have written about on the Cherry Bomb symbol:  So here was my response to her:

Cherry bomb  symbol

On first read, I would have focused on three symbols:  Summer, the cherry bomb explosion, and the memory box hidden under the stairs.

She writes in the beginning summer or summertime five times.  Obviously important then.  Summer is a common symbol of youth, fun and freedom.  I would explore that.

Then the cherry bomb EXPLOSION.  That would be loss of innocence.  

Then the memory box with the diary and cherry bomb.  Those are memories of time past that she keeps hidden, but can get to if she really digs deep within that closet with other things from other people’s past (the clothes from her father and grandfather.)

It could be a pretty deep paragrapgh.

Now am I right?  I have no frealking clue.  But I think that I can prove it in my writing.

You can too.  Just come up with something and GO with it with full belief that you are right.

And remember:  Loss of Innocence or coming of age is HUGE in the AP curriculum.  And I think that tehy will pick a piece this year that is pretty easy since we have all of this shit going on.

Type it out.  Try to take only 20 minutes.  Share a google doc with me and allow me to edit.  That way I can make comments right on it.

Tuesday April 7 Lesson

Hello everyone.

Kinda bummed right now.  My kid just returned back to San Diego State after Spring Break.  I will miss him while all this crazy is happening.

And my new puppy just pooped on the floor.  He hasn't done that in weeks.  What the heck?

College Board Lesson 8: Developing Commentary

I just finished watching the lesson for today.  The homework was an entire essay.  And I am not going to grade an essay right now, so there are no points available today.

Also, with learning the test information posted in the update below, this lesson focuses on a novel, and you will not be writing on a novel on the test.

So watch the video lesson if you like.  I thought the use of Lord of the Flies was cool.

I think the lessons from her on out will focus more on the Q3 lesson.  If they don't, I will make assignments based on my own Q3 materials.

It will be a Q2 Essay on a short piece of prose.

Using the 6 point rubric that we have discussed and used all year.

4 points for establishing and proving a line of reasoning
1 point for awesome writing

Virus Update 3/20

The news just keeps coming in...

I heard from AP Central today.  Tests will go on.  But at home.

Interesting!  Here are my notes:

*45 minute online exam.
*There will be two testing dates.  One early (line early April) and one late (like May)
*  There will be cheating and plagiarism technologies used.  So don't plan on having an AP test party.
*Beginning March 25, AP Central will have free lessons given by AP teachers across the country.
*The schedule for these classes will be posted later today.  Once they do, I will post it here.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Here is what is happening as of today:

1.  I graded all of the Othello Q3 essays.  I made the assignment worth 95 points, and graded on the tougher second quarter scale.
6= 90-100
5=80-90
4=70-80
3=60-69
2=50-59

Problems that I wish you would stop doing:
1.  If  you use a quote, use the right words.  Iago did not say, "I am not what I say that I am."
2.  Stop just summarizing.
3.  If the prompt says to pick A character.  Don't pick 2.
4.  If it says "motives" then ;list more than 1.
5.  Don't say this line is an allusion without explaining what it alludes to.
6.  The "bible" is a book.  So it's Bible and Biblical

So if we don't ever go back to school and they don't allow me to post assignments for you to do during this break, all grades are DONE for the year. What you see now is your semester grade.
