Catcher Reading Schedule: Write into your calendar. You are responsible for reading even if you are absent.
Monday: Chapter 9 and questions and symbol analysis
Tuesday: 10-11
Wednesday: 12
Thursday: 13-15
Friday: 16-17
1. Discussion of Catcher in the Rye Chapters 7 and 8: Who is going to lead our discussion today?
Discuss: Holden asks Stradlater if Jane still "keeps her kings in the back row" after Stradlater went on a date with her. This is a metaphor. In checkers, what is the importance of the "Kings" and why would someone keep them on the back row? Now, what does Holden mean when he asks this to Stradlater?
Discuss: Holden thinks that everyone else in the world are a bunch of "Phonies." What is ironic about this throughout Chapter 8 when Holden meets the attractive older lady on the train?
2. Read Chapter 9 and complete handout:
3. Tomorrow: I need something to grade and you have to practice for the AP Test: Q3 essay: Make sure you know a long piece (I would know two) that you can use to respond to a prompt. You have read Grendel, Frankenstein, Othello, but you can use any literary piece to respond.
