AP Lesson 19

Hello everyone,

Hope you all had a nice weekend and that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

Today's Lesson:  Number 19 Deconstructing Prompts:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GduDHoPRTvc&list=PLoGgviqq4845L7Yj9c1kkIfdskkaLOUzD&index=19

This should all be review for you.  I will watch it and get back with you afterward!

Ok it was a total review.  We have gone over that information with every prompt that we have looked it.

So for 50, this lesson is EASY!!!!  At the end of the lesson they give the Hawthorne prompt.  So you read the prompt and all you have to do is comment below:

1.  What does the title, author and date tell you to think about before you write:

2.  What does the context tell you that you need to pay attention to?

3.  What dooes the task tell you that YOU MUST DO?  What are some key words that you want to make sure that you include in your thesis as well as in the body??

Lastly.  Test day is 18 days away.  Have you thought about how you are going to take it?  Are you gonna write it?  Are you gonna type it?  Are you going to be able to print it and annotate?

And, since you are taking it at home, I would have my TTSTCANDI whiteboard printed out and hanging in front of me. As far as I have read, they have NOT said that this is cheating or illegal.  Now if it is, I don't recommend it.  I will look further into it.

1. They tell you to consider that the piece was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1850 and how that time period and Hawthorne's background can provide insight to the story: Hawthorne often wrote about morality and once lived in a farm for a period of time, and the 1850's were common in referencing slavery.
2. This context of Hawthorne's background can help us recognize similarities between himself the character's perspectives and the relationships he has with other characters in the story.
3. The task tells us to determine the focus of your own interpretation of the story and decide what you must answer in your thesis. The key words to include in the thesis and body of your essay are the literary elements you will use to answer the prompt.

1. Nathaniel Hawthorne, famous for "Scarlett Letter," and was an American romantic author. 1850's in a rural setting

2. Context emphasizes two main characters and a utopian like setting, mentions that the two characters will part so pay attention to character interaction and the events occurring that cause the parting.

3. The prompt states to analyze how the author uses literary devices to portray the narrator's attitude towards Zenobia. Keywords to mention would be attitude, tone, and portray to tie back each literary device back to the prompt.

1. Nathanial Hawthorne often wrote about morality, religion, and history. The 1850s were a time of different social norms, racism, and slavery. Women were also not deemed equal during this time.

2. The context mentions that two characters who have been living in a community where equality is important will split, so it will be important to pay attention to the characters' relationship with each other and with others in the community and to how and why they are parting.

3. The essay must include literary devices that the author uses to portray the narrator's complex attitude towards Zenobia. This means that how the narrator treats Zenobia will be important. Key words are tone, attitude, portray, and the names of the literary devices.

1. Behind every title, author, and date there is a moral. A wide contextual range such as who the author is, why did the author write such a novel during a certain time, and what is the meaning behind the title is all key to understand the purpose of the author. During the time period of the 1850s, there was civil conflict, and one of Hawthorne's most recognized piece is the "Scarlett Letter" based off of the moral conflicts that occurred harshly during that time.
2. The context of Hawthorne's novel adds evidence to his audience's attention and directs them to a particular train of thought.
3. The task is to analyze and interpret how Hawthorne uses literary elements and techniques to portray the narrators' attitude towards Zenobia. Including certain keywords for the thesis and body such as diction, tone, and literary devices that will help and relate back to the prompt.

1. Nathaniel Hawthorne often wrote about dark romance and morality and he once lived on a farm. The 1850s were known for social stratifications and farming was a way of life.

2. It states that the two characters will part ways so pay attention to why the characters split and observe the connection they had before splitting. In addition, the context states that these two main characters live in an ideal-like setting before splitting.

3. The task you must do is analyze the use of literary elements and techniques. Some keywords to use while writing is attitude and the literary elements that are used to portray the narrator's attitude towards Zenobia.

1. The novel was written in 1852, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, an American author who is best known for his writings of Romanticism like "The Scarlet Letter," and wrote this novel during a time when it was common for most families to have farms on their land.
2. The context that we need to pay attention to is the relationship between two characters living on Blithedale Farm, in a community where they were looked at based on their equality through rural living.
3. Our task is telling us that we must analyze how the author uses literary elements and techniques to portray the narrators complex attitude towards Zenobia. The key words that I want to make sure I include in my thesis as well as body paragraphs are the literary elements Hawthorne uses to show the narrators complex attitude.
